FOLDS video installation - Robert Seidal

FOLDS
Robert Seidel
Lindenau Museum, Altenburg / Germany
18.6.ˆ14.8.2011

FOLDS is a 2-channel video installation with projections on 19th century plaster casts of Kladeos, Kephissos,
Belvedere Torso, Seer and the Three Goddesses from the Bernhard August von Lindenau Collection.
It connects to the fragmentary plaster casts, makes them flow with bygone colors, clothes them and wakes
them for a moment then to be stored as into the sediment of oblivion.

Jane Cassidy - Square Ball Insallation

Jane Cassidy's new visual music piece - Square Ball is an installation piece and its inaugural presentation took place in Dublin, in August 2011 as part of the Glitch Festival 2011 organised by MART.

This was a really beautiful and clever installation that really is something that needs to be seen and sensed, as an audience member one has to face the projector as the most amazing layers of imagery and patterns unfold with great connections to the music.

Kurt Laurenz Theinert - Visual Piano

Light Installation Artist - Kurt Laurenz Theinert - Visual Piano

Kurt Laurenz Theinert is a photographer and light artist, who develops, performs and installs incredible light installations.  The following is a summary of his visual piano instrument.

"The visual piano is an instrument which makes it possible to create moving images in a space. It is unique and was conceived and developed by the photographer and light installation artist Kurt Laurenz Theinert in collaboration with the software designers Roland Blach and Philip Rahlenbeck.

Using a MIDI-keyboard it is possible to generate varying graphic patterns which can be digitally projected onto one or more screens. These dynamic and immediate drawings in light are not (as with VJ soft-and Hardware) generated by pre-recorded clips, but every moment of the performance is being played and modulated live and in real time via the keyboard and pedals."

Visit his website for more information on his work, installations, collaborations and performances.

The visual piano has been used in installations and in audiovisual concerts.

"Over several years the pianist Martin Stortz and Kurt Laurenz Theinert have been exploring the relationship between pianosounds and graphic patterns generated in realtime by using the visual piano. Sound an image interact in a very sensitiv dialogue - creating an audivisual concert."

Sara Rossi - Installation "TV effect"

Sara Rossi's beautiful video installation - "TV effect" created in 2008, is being exhibited as part of the "LookAtFestival 2010" consisting of Video Art and Music, to be held in Italy, from 15 to 30 May, 2010.
Sara's video installation caught my eye for the use of three screens and optical effects that remind me of much visual music work.

48X48 - Installation by Visual System

48X48 from VS Team on Vimeo.

biot(h)ing - Invisibles - Alisa Andrasek

I have just come across this most interesting installation research project to be shortly exhibited in paris. There is a lot of imagery that uses software generative processes to create "scripted" imagery - these images are always incredibly beautiful, and ordered displaying the most wonderful 'ordered' patterns that would be very hard to realise/create by hand processes. When these patterns are tied up to audio processes, then the most incredible synergy seems to take place. This project is a very physical realisation of both scripted animation and an interactive sonar field. What caught my eye was the imagery and the tight connection with sound. (Author comment)

"biot(h)ing - Invisibles is an interactive installation exhibited at the Prague Biennale and is to be exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2009. ‘Invisibles' by biot(h)ing uses holosonic speakers to create sound patterns projected into an interactive space. These speakers isolate individual cones of sound, creating a counterintuitive experience for the visitors as they move through different vibrations of sonar projections. At the same time LCD Screens display streams of information as it crystallizes and becomes visible through pulses of dynamic morphologies of 3D Cells scripted in animation software. These crystallized streams may also be affected by the physical environment through an interactive sonar field. At the core of this audio/visual/physical interface is an interactie sound programming environment that alters conventional forms of musical composition through the incorporation of algorithmically based processes. The user navigates the software's internal intelligence less like a composer and more like a programmer, adjusting various parameters to indirectly influence the system's internal network dynamics. The granular synthesis of sound results form the generation of thousands of short sonic grains which are combined linearly to form large-scale audio events."

The project was realized for the Mixed Media festival taking place at the Hangar Bicocca in front of the installation “Seven Heavenly Doors” of Kiefer. Seven entrances, seven tunnels, seven journeys throughout as many experience optical environments looking for the final entire and unique wholeness."

12_Series by Telcosystems - 2009

12_Series is a new generative multichannel computer installation by Telcosystems (NL).

12_series - work in progress pt. 2 from Telcosystems.

"The installation is an audiovisual horizon comprised of twelve identical image and sound generating machines.
The software for these machines is based on the idea of evolution, implementing forms of audiovisual imitation, mutation and recombination, aiming for the emergence of captivating complexity from a vocabulary of rudimentary shapes, sounds and logic.
The system is build around the notion of decentralized autonomous decision making, where each machine displays its own generative behavior, while reacting to behavior of neighboring machines and adapting to centrally organized environmental variables. In this way the installation focuses on the tension between the individual and the group, between the machine specific development and the group dynamics that determine the ever-evolving horizon.

Imitation will be used as a way to start complex group behavior, steering groups of machines into similar audiovisual directions. Mutation will initiate variation, by injecting errors into this imitation process and recombination enables the interchange and reinterpretation of output material amongst the twelve machines, adding another layer of coherency.
Besides finding ways to create the building blocks that assemble into complex generative individuals, the aim is to find boundaries for their mutative behavior, in a way that allows the result to surpass our imagination."

About Telcosystems

"Telcosystems researches the relation between the behavior of programmed numerical logic and the perception of a conversion of this behavior into the physical world, seeking for its own narrative in the world of abstract spatial image and sound. The hallmark of their work is its lucid and restrained aestheticism, which is closely related to the technology they use."

The Light Bead Curtain

"description
The Light Bead Curtain is an interactive musical installation that can be freely played by person's touch. The installation takes the form of a beaded curtain; strings of simple clear beads. Each bead, on a users touch, lights itself and emits a unique sound. People play with the curtain by weaving their hands through it, touching it with their faces, and moving through it with their body. An environment of light and sound is created when people engage with the curtain. "
